Snippet 91: Gabby Proposes
"Kate, I've been wondering," Gabby started, turning down the television as he turned to Cat.
"No, you can't put any more pictures of Slash up - I've already got one sweaty shirtless rockstar in my life, I don't need any more of him," Cat murmured.
"Well that's unfair, but no, it's not that. Have you ever thought about getting married again?"
"Suppose - have you?"
"I have, actually - you know that chick who works at Tesco's? Brunette? Yeah, I think I'm going to propose one of these days, she's driving me crazy."
"Not funny, Gabby," Kate said reproachfully, slapping him on the shoulder.
"You know what I mean, though."
"Gabby, I'm still married to Simon, and there's no way in hell he'll give me a divorce - and Ian can't pull any strings for us - he's already risked enough by associating with you again. Why so soppy all of a sudden?"
"I love you, for a start. It's been about half a century - that's longer than most couples last."
"That's not all though, is it?" Cat gazed searchingly into Gabby's eyes.
"Danny and Andy still think I'm going to ditch you any day now - this would shut them up nicely. And I dunno, I've just been feeling..." Gabby trailed off.
"Stick a full-stop on the end of that, it's already surprising enough as is." Cat giggled. "Well, if we can work it out, I'd love to - it seems I'm stuck with you. You do realise that would be till death do us part?"
"All eternity, married to you." Gabby smirked. "Fuck me..."
"Was that a request?"
Gabby glanced down at Kate and shrugged, the smirk still on his face.
