Snippet 46: Gabby's Accounts are Moved

The Musketeers chartered another helicopter out of Anchorage, leaving Gabe's Lear behind, probably for the last time. As the helicopter thundered over the snowy forests of Alaska, Gabe's mobile rang.

"Mr. Mallows? What is going on? The news is saying you kidnapped the President's wife. Is it true?" Gabe's accountant sounded panicked.

"The less you know, mate, the safer you are. Listen, they're going to freeze my accounts. I need you to put my money somewhere they can't get it. Can you do that?"

"Yeah, it'll be risky, though."

"Don't worry - I'm gonna reward ya well. Take 1%, in addition to any fees incurred during the transfer. Get your family a nice place, have a good life, that'll be enough to retire. Thank you for all your help, mate - you've been a rock."

"Thank you, Mr. Mallows. I'll send you the details via a secure line as soon as I have them."

"Goodbye."

Gabe hung up, and as his phone clicked shut, a new realisation hit him. It was all or nothing now. He was a wanted man, an outlaw. He glanced down at Cat, who appeared to be sleeping. She was part of this now, whether she liked it or not. So were the Musketeers. Gabby had just brought about the collapse of whatever fragile balance there was before. The DHPD were at war once again. Kate stirred, and turned over. A hand appeared in front of Gabe's face and clicked its fingers.

"Gabby, you're staring, you creep. Imagine if she woke up to your ugly mug!" Sam chuckled.

"Fucking hell, Sam," Gabby gasped, "With the whole world out to get us, I would rather you didn't try and fuck with my head."

"Couldn't resist. So, Gabby. When did you get into your moral crusade against Simon? Was it when he got elected, when he beat you up... or when he started dating Cat?"

Gabby scowled. Daniel saved him from having to think of an answer with an announcement.

"Guys, here we are - they ain't got a helipad, so this might be a bit of a dodgy landing. Tell me if you see any trees in the way."

"Fucking hell," Gabe mumbled.
