Scribblings
Dr Who
- Strange Meeting (PDF) - Doctor Who fiction featuring the 5th Doctor and Nyssa. This was supposed to be part of a sequence of stories, Storm God Rising, by several authors featuring the same villain (the storm demon Achmael). This segment should have appeared about 1/2 way through. Warning - features Mary Sue.
- Review of the Time Lord RPG written for the GEAS encyclopedia.
- Why I Hate Jason Kane written for Oh Yes It Is! a short-lived Benny Summerfield fanzine which died before this article appeared.
- Facts and Fiction - an article losely connected to Dr Who (it uses several examples from it and was prompted by a discusion on Allen Road, a Dr Who mailing list). This was originally written for The Troglodyte a general tele-fantasy based fanzine with leanings towards Dr Who which died before this article appeared.
- Fiction and Facts - which has nothing at all to do with Dr Who but was written as a companion piece to the above. This is me venting my spleen against Kevin Warwick.
- The Web of Time (PDF) - This was more a vignette than as story. I never went anywhere with the idea and had no particular idea who "the swimmers" mentioned in it were. It possibly benefits from the absense of Mary Sue and appeared in the Eye of Orion which, for a change, didn't actually fold before the story was published!
- The Nightmare of Bethlehem (PDF) - This was supposed to be the first installement in a sequence of stories about a Doctor played by Geoffrey Rush. The idea was that of "Brax" from the JadePagoda news group and he ran the project for a while. Only a few stories were ever actually produced however and the project fizzled. This story was intended as the first in the sequence and was based on an idea for aliens suggested by Simon Bucher-Jones.
- The Feast of St. Crispin Crispianus (PDF) - The cunning thing about this story is that I've disguised Mary Sue as the Doctor.
Arthuriana
Most of these articles (unless specified otherwise) originally appearing in Ceridwen's Cauldron, the magazine of the Oxford Arthurian Society.- How Culhwch won Olwen - A brief look at this tale from the Mabinogian.
- King Arthur on the Fringe - Descriptions/reviews of two arthurian shows on the 1994 Edinburgh Fringe.
- Parsley, Sage, Kippers and Pervert's Trousers - Arthurian only because it is about songs the Oxford Arthurian Society like to sing.
- Arthurian Literature - A survey article I wrote for the GEAS online roleplaying encyclopedia.
Tolkien
- J. R. R. Tolkien - Brief Biography of Tolkien written for the GEAS online roleplaying encyclopedia.
- Why is it so hard to Role-play in Middle Earth - Originally appeared in the GEAS Magazine. Re-reading this several years after it was written suggests to me that my RP experiences up to that point had not been high quality.
General Roleplaying
- Fools and Heros - A brief description of the Fools and Heroes LRP Society written for the GEAS online encyclopedia. Now rather out of date.
- Character descriptions written for the GEAS character graveyard. Anne of Schleswig Holstien, Kate Croy, Miette, Gail Price.
- A Series of short articles explaining LARP terms, written for the GEAS encyclopedia. Physrep, Man Down, Time Freeze, Time in, Time Out, Down Time.
Vampire: The Masquerade
These originally appeared at the Salon de la Rose and, indeed, one was explicity written for that web site.- On art and Reality - originally entitled "Why Toreador aren't boring".
- An Essay on Love - character stuff.
- Toreador Prestige Rules - Shame they don't work really.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Rivalries (PDF) - Fanfic set early in season 2 before Buffy and Angel start dating. This is sort of a Buffy/Mr. Vampire cross-over except without all the truly silly bits in Mr. Vampire (i.e. most of it) or any Kung-Fu. Contains a Mary Sue.
Primeval
Dragonfly over Kazakhstan (PDF) - This is largely rodlox's fault for using the words "run with it" in connection with my nanites drabble. That one was played for laughs, this one is not. However its the first time in years I've felt really driven to write fic so thanks are due. In style it owes a big debt to Dan Simmons' Ilium/Olympos cycle - especially the cable car. In retrospect some of the imagery would also appear to come from Ken MacLoed's Newton's Wake.
Thanks are also due to my beta readers, fredbassett and rodlox.
Warning: One use of strong language.
- Making Teams, Breaking Teams (PDF) - A Torchwood crossover.
Thanks: To my beta-reader, the ever helpful fredbassett in particular for pointing out, ever so nicely, that the first draft I sent her was virtually impossible to follow. And to hallowstranger for the prompt: "A crossover with Doctor Who/Torchwood that doesn't have to do with dinosaurs or anamolies." and a request that the story be Connor-centric.
Warning: Mild language.
- Head, Hand and Heart (PDF)
Thanks: To my beta-reader, fredbassett.
Warning: Language
Note: This story presumes fredbassett's Primeval series as background. In particular it assumes that Stephen Hart and Captain Ryan were a couple and that everyone was aware of the fact.
Drabbles
Most of these drabbles were written for prompts from the primeval100 community on livejournal. In a lot of them I presume ``fredbassett''s Primeval stories are canon. The details of her stories are not important but, in them, Stephen Hart and Tom Ryan are a couple, as are James Lester and Jon Lyle (a soldier character, invented by Fred, who looks like Daniel Craig).
