Fools and Heros

Fools and Heroes is a pretty traditional Fantasy Live Roleplaying system. It uses latex weapons and a fairly simple combat and magic system. The emphasis tends to be on having a good time, and not on expensive special effects etc. There is a national campaign world within which the characters adventure and attain political positions.

It is run on a branch basis (there are 19 branches at the time of writing (Guernsey, Portsmouth , Bristol, Exeter, South East, Guildford, London, Cardiff, Coventry, Black Country, Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby , Grimsby, Sheffield , Bolton, Newcastle and the Independant branch)). Branches can have anything from 4 to 40 members - the latter tend to be based at universities.

Mostly F&H runs more or less linear adventures (members are expected to monster about half the time). These may be one offs, part of a local campaign or part of the national campaign (or a mixture of all three). There are also weekend "fests" and a variety of in-character events (e.g. parties).

Each branch runs local adventures and campaigns and other in-character events on a regular basis - usually once or twice a month (generally these events are free). Every two or three years (more often for some branches) a branch will host a "fest", a weekend event for the whole society. Every year, in August, F&H fest is run by "central", i.e. the admin/ref types who are in charge of the nuts and bolts of keeping track of membership and maintaining a reasonably consistent campaign world and controlling the nationwide plot(s). F&H Fest generally marks the culmination of the national campaign for that year, i.e. in 1994 it was a kingmaking.

Membership costs in the region of 10 pounds a year. Everyone is entitled to two "free" adventures before they join.

There are two general information sites for Fools and Heroes Dave Elder's is rather out of date, but does have a copy of the constitution and the player's guide. Roy Lea's is more up to date, but he tries not to duplicate information on Dave's page.
